Peterburgsky Musei kino (Museum of Cinema in St.
Petersburg) was established in 2002 as non-profit fund. The found
principle – each film-display as an exhibit, heading as a rack of
exposition, program as an archive – helped create the concept of
the virtual museum, as the most appropriate model in our times and
social condition. The main goal of Musei kino is to introduce audiences
to the archives of cinematography, classic motion pictures and experimental
films – works of the widely acclaimed masters, as well as less known
artists of Russian and global cinemà The pilot program took place
successfully in the end of 2001. It was supported by General Consulate
of Japan and featured films of classic Japanese director Yasujiro
Ozu. It set the stage for activities of fund, now including
such projects as year-running “RWF-it`s
Fassbinder” (in cooperation with the Goethe Institute), New
Italian Cinema Events (NICE)
(in cooperation with the General Consulate of Italy in St. Petersburg
and State Museum of Cinema in Moscow), monthly program “Encyclopedia
of Cinema” and many others.
